About the Project

This blog is an Honors thesis for Loyola University New Orleans as both product and process. Its focus, in broadest terms, is language, and therefore both the content and medium will parallel in their ever-evolving and interactive natures. Questions to be explored include but are not limited to whether or not language is an obstruction to a sense of unity and oneness through the categorical separation it induces; how language shapes our mindscapes and perceptions of reality; whether or not it is possible to deconstruct this perceptual filter (and if not, what compromises or adjustments to the use of language can be implemented for better connection); if a more pure wordless experience is possible; and how the use of languages affects "ecological thinking" (understanding reality in terms of relationships) and a being part of Timothy Morton's concept of "the mesh", as described in The Ecological Thought. The experiment to examine language will be conducted through a weekly vow of silence. The hope is that by withdrawing from the use of language in spoken form, I will be in a more apt position to observe its use, implications, and limitations in all its subtitles.
